Marlon Brando won an Academy Award for “On The Waterfront”, and he did accept it. He is so beautifully, surprised and honored. What a time it was, for movies…What a time it was, for acting.

That meant no multiple takes. No re-shooting anything, even if it wasn’t right. Or mistakes were made. It also meant that Mickey Rourke had to be an even better actor than credited. Unlike any other movie, there weren’t multiple scenes to choose from…

When an actor is exceptional, the audience CAN’T tell whether it is the actor or the person. That is the way you can tell a magnificent performance. As soon as you stop “watching the actor”…
