Jeremy Renner, Oscar Nominated For Best Actor, The Hurt Locker
…Had a an acting resume, prior, but not a big one. As an actor, Renner is still considered an unknown, in Hollywood terms. (He won’t be if he wins the Oscar for Best Actor, next month…And he may. His acting was superb. His performance: magnificent.)
On his acting resume, at IMDB, there’s 19 films since 1995 that this ‘unknown’ has been in.
In , he was in a music video. Pink’s. He played a sexy guy, no lines, tiny part, sexy looking. Bi-i-i-ig cowboy hat.
Almost every actor has been a bit player, sometime, in their career. It is unusual for the Hollywood elite to be voting, at Oscar time, for an actor that they were unfamiliar with. This isn’t even in the supporting level category on the ballot, Renner’s up for a Best Actor Academy Award.
This leading role, in The Hurt Locker, was a perfect fit, for Jeremy Renner. He was ready for it.
Can you tell from this music video…Uh, kind of, but not really. Good thing that he broke through, as he did.
If an actor is extremely talented, it doesn’t mean that they get to break through. They often don’t.
Additionally, if an actor is extremely talented, and they break through and get small supporting roles, it may not be apparent that they would make outstanding leads, or do wonderfully in larger roles. Even if they would.

Many Jeremy Renner Mash-ups
This, to me, was very interesting. When I put Jeremy Renner’s name into YouTube’s search pane, I got a slew of mashups, made by what seemed to be late-in-teens or early 20s, young women. Made prior to The Hurt Locker.
How do I know that they were younger, and hip? Because of the music they used for soundtracks. And the artform. And the heartthrobbing.
They are also charged and open about what males are physically attractive; and about males who are very sexy.
In touch with the cultural zeitgeist, younger people are always little ahead of other people. They live out, earlier, what’s just about to hit the general population, but hasn’t yet. No accident that in the ’60s and ’70′s, it was the American youth who channelled the the rock-and-roll revolution. Youth has a connection and consciousness to the collective unconscious. Not all. But the ones that do, are always ahead of those that are older than them.
Maybe they should be consulted for casting movies, too.

I loved Jeremy Renner in The Town. I love this article, I was laughing when you were talking about the teenage girls doing video mashups for actors. You should check out the ones for James Frain. The girls have really done some creative videos for him. He is one of my favorites. I agree that some of the younger kids could do alot of the casting!
