Maggie Gyllenhaal Had A Few Glasses Of Champagne, Dahling…
And saw Jeff Bridges at an event…Like a gushing fan, she approached him. (Anyone who says that professional actors don’t get nervous, or daunted, has never been a professional actor.)
Bridges is a big actor, and a decent actor. Apparently, a very good guy.
(He must’ve known her acting work also.)
I met him at the Mona Lisa Smile premiere because [his brother] Beau Bridges’s son, Jeff’s nephew, played Kirsten Dunst’s husband in that movie. I’d had a couple glasses of champagne and, you know, I looked like a baby, and I went up to Jeff and said, ‘I loved you in Jagged Edge!’ And he said, ‘We’re going to work together one day.’ And that sealed it right then. He called me a couple times before we started shooting Crazy Heart and I never called him back. I still can’t figure out really why. I was just like, I don’t know where I’m going to come at this from, I’m not ready.
But then when I actually met him—we met at this playground because we were meeting kids who were going to play my son, Buddy—and all it took was 10 seconds: ‘I’m up for anything. Are you up for anything?’ ‘Yeah, I’m totally up for anything.’ ‘Ok, let’s go.’ And we did.
